I nearly wrote off the tail end of The Office, Season 7, as a show that could not survive without the character of Michael Scott, but now I am rethinking that. The writing was pretty funny, especially when it came to the canditate interviews. The funniest conversation came from Will Arnetts character, who told the interviewers that he had a 3-Part Plan for doubling profits, but would not reveal it. If you hire me, you get the plan, he told them. But he did concede to giving them part 3 of part 2. Good comedy writing. It made me laugh, but it also made me see a similarity between this and the world of SEO advice. Really, no SEO expert wants to spill the whole SEO plan, because each expert has had to learn what does work and what does not work the hard way, through a great deal of effort. Building up the right kind of traffic to a search optimized website requires continual, trackable, hard work and no SEO professional is willing to have their know how be a completely open book. True, there are best practices that most of us know about and adhere to. Also true that most of our reward is the result of labor, and not because we know secrets that others do not. For my PrintSites customers, I spend a great deal of time developing their unique SEO platform. In my new series for the PrintSites newsletter, I will begin sharing some of the parts of a great SEO Plan for web 2 print storefronts. Please feel free to visit and sign up for our newsletter so you can catch them all. Of course, I cannot tell you the entire plan, but if you join PrintSites, you get the whole plan.

The first SEO tip I have for web2print storefronts is this: be sure your website has back end fields for metadata. Metadata is data about other data. Plainly speaking, metadata tells the web crawlers what they will find on a particular web page. Web2print storefronts who have a web presence that they want found by online print customers through search, need to first be found by the web crawlers. They will index their website pages and then land them on a Google results page. At PrintSites, we build these metadata fields right in our free website designs, so that our users can optimize their new storefronts for great search results, with or without my SEO expertise.
